Why I Suck at Twitter

I LOVE Twitter. I love following my favorite celebs and industry gurus.  I'm a 'lurker'.  I've attempted to post, get on a roll of retweeting, etc.  But it's always short-lived.  I'm happier being a lurker.

My followers & I have special relationship: one-sided.  It's not that I don't care about relationships. It's not that I don't think I need to invest time to cultivate my own Twitterverse.  It's not that I only want to promote, not engage fellow Twits.  It's that I'm BORING. Yep, B O R I N G.  Does anyone really want to hear the latest hair-brained idea I had in the shower this a.m.? Know that my youngest has diarrhea and that I'm not sure if it's OK for my 4 and 6 year old to be referring to their scrotums (ugh, the word is ugly even) as "nuts"?  I don't think so.

There's also a pressure I can't deal with.  You have to essentially pick a Twitter personality or theme, if you will, and stick to it.  No including 'scrotum' in your tweet history if you really want to sell downspout caps. No swearing if you want to engage corporations. No politics if you want to keep all of your friends and followers.

It's the same reason this blog is updated on random basis. I have a hard enough time figuring out what to make for dinner, much less attempting to create a brilliant blog post that will earn me thousands of followers and companies clamoring to get me to review their products.

I can't pick a personality. I can't always be "ON" for my Tweeps.  So, no I don't expect you to purchase my products (Downspout Safety Caps) or services (NewMom, Inc.) just because I shared a link (National Hardware Retail Association Feature).

I'm really happy for those who have mastered their Twitter/Blogsphere personalities.  Me?  I'm choosing to continue to bump along w/my sporadic, Twitterphrenic personality and hope that the Universe will help me make connections with other Twitterphreniacs as we bump along, balancing the pursuit of life, love, happiness and the next social media trend.
